Move to Improve

  • Move to Improve is designed to establish a foundation of general conditioning, mobility, stability, and strength with emphasis on safety, fundamentals, and form in an encouraging team environment.

  • Move to Improve is a dynamic group exercise class open to all fitness levels and incorporating stability, strength, and mobility activities.

  • Move to Improve is offered Wednesdays from 9:00AM-9:45AM.

  • Move to Improve is held in our Mammoth location (121 College Pkwy, Mammoth Lakes, CA) in the gym at the South Gateway Apartments.

  • Move to Improve is covered under our wellness class passes.

    Elevate Class Pass: $15 (expires 6 months after purchase)

    Elevate 5-Class Pass: $60 (equivalent of $12/class; expires 6 months after purchase)

    Elevate 10-Class Pass: $100 (equivalent of $10/class; expires 6 months after purchase)

    Elevate 25-Class Pass: $200 (equivalent of $8/class; expires 12 months after purchase)

    1 Month Unlimited Class Pass: $65 (expires 1 month after purchase)

  • Participants younger than 18 years of age are required to have parental consent. This course is not open to individuals younger than 14 years of age at this time.

    This class is open to all fitness levels and appropriate modifications may be offered whether you're new to resistance training, trying to get back into the habit of working out, or looking to progress.

  • Sign up early! Classes with fewer than 3 participants enrolled 12 hours in advance are subject to cancellation.

    Notify us of plan changes early! Participant class cancellations with less than 12-hour notification are subject to charge.

Health Benefits of Strength Training

  • Resistance training builds muscle mass, strength, and endurance which allow you to perform daily tasks more easily. This can also improve athletic performance.

  • Resistance training boosts metabolism by increasing muscle mass, which is more metabolically efficient than fat mass, and increasing metabolic rate for up to 72 hours after your training session. This allows you to burn more calories at rest!

  • Resistance training can reduce body fat and help you appear leaner. This can decrease risk of chronic diseases like heart disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease, type 2 diabetes, and certain types of cancer which are associated with abdominal and visceral (organ) fat.

  • Regular resistance training can decrease blood pressure, lower total and LDL (bad) cholesterol, and strengthen the heart and blood vessels for improved blood circulation. Increased skeletal muscle also increases insulin sensitivity and reduces blood sugar levels by removing glucose from the blood and sending it to muscle cells. This can help manage or even prevent the development of type 2 diabetes.

  • Resistance training helps improve the strength, range of motion, and mobility of your muscles, ligaments, and tendons. This helps you better support your body for improved balance and decreased falls. Resistance training also puts temporary stress on your bones, sending a message to bone-building cells to rebuild bones stronger, reducing your risk of osteoporosis, fractures, and falls, especially as you age.

  • Resistance training may protect against age-related cognitive decline. Resistance training can improve blood flow, reduce inflammation, and increase expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (linked to memory and learning). These neuroprotective effects may improve processing speed, memory, and executive function.

  • Resistance training may reduce anxiety and increase self-esteem and self-efficacy. Exercise in general promotes the release of endorphins which can play a role in positive mood too!

  • Resistance training throughout the lifespan has been associated with better mental health, physical functioning, pain management, general health, and vitality.
