Better Bones & Balance

Improve posture, balance, and fracture risk in this class led by Mammoth Hospital geriatric clinical specialist physical therapist Jen McMahon.

Develop postural awareness and functional strength, and practice balance activities in a safe, supervised, and social environment. 

The low-impact movements and gentle pace of this class are generally safe for those with osteoporosis and osteopenia.  Ability to safely access the floor is recommended for participation in this class though exercises can be modified to suit varying levels of fitness or ability.  

 
  • Stand Strong

    Participate in regular exercise to develop the conditioning, flexibility, and strength needed to improve alignment and balance. Learn weight-bearing and postural strength activities to improve bone health and decrease the likelihood of a fracture.

  • Functional Fun

    Develop neuromuscular control and prepare yourself for the uneven, unstable, obstacle-laden, and distraction-filled real world! Challenge yourself with balance activities in a social class environment.

  • Build Confidence

    Learn and practice fall management and recovery strategies to decrease fear and anxiety. Prepare how to handle this unfortunate event so you can get back on your feet!
