Nutrition Counseling
Receive personalized, one-on-one dietary guidance and advice from a registered dietitian to optimize health and performance.

A registered dietitian (RD) is a food and nutrition expert with extensive education and training in nutrition and the role it plays in human health and wellness. Beyond offering nutrition advice, registered dietitians provide Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), an evidence-based medical approach to treating certain conditions. A registered dietitian has met the Commission on Dietetic Registration’s strict guidelines for certification. While all dietitians are nutritionists, not all nutritionists are certified and registered dietitians.

Nutrition Counseling can enhance health and function in several ways including:
Preventing and managing chronic conditions: Improving the way you eat can lower your risk of developing hypertension, type 2 diabetes, insulin resistance, obesity, some cancers and other chronic conditions.
Achieving a healthy weight: Carrying too much extra adipose (fat) tissue can increase your risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, and complications from acute illness. Likewise, unintended or excessive weight loss can increase risk for falls, fractures, and limited mobility and function. Nutritional counseling can help you get the proper balance of calories and nutrients.
Improving quality of life: Improving the quality of what you eat can improve your sleep, increase your energy, aid digestion and bowel movement, boost your mood, and enhance attention and focus.
Developing longterm healthy habits: Nutritional counseling empowers you with the knowledge and tools to make personalized, practical, and manageable changes.

The registered dietitian will partner with you to discuss your nutritional health goals and to help you develop a sustainable nutrition plan. Topics and factors that may come up during nutritional counseling include:
Basic Nutrition Education (understanding the energy impacts of different foods, reading food product labels, visualizing portion sizes, etc.)
Lifestyle Habits (current eating habits, physical activity, stress management, sleep, substance use, social support, etc.)
Medical History (medical conditions, surgeries, food allergies or sensitivities, digestive issues, medications, supplements, etc.)
Relationship to Food (thought patterns and emotions around food, identifying hunger cues, etc.)
Meal Planning (consider calorie and nutrient intake, budget concerns, cultural preferences, food/flavor preferences)
Behavior Change (goal setting, barriers, motivations, tracking progress, overcoming setbacks, etc.)
During your nutrition counseling appointment, you'll be able to share any concerns you have and ask questions. We recommend working with your dietitian to schedule follow-up appointments, which will allow your registered dietitian to monitor your progress and help you adjust your plan as needed.
