Breastfeeding can be an important and special time of bonding between mothers and infants. Breastfeeding may also offer both mom and baby several health benefits. Breastfeeding hormones can help a mother’s uterus return to pre-pregnancy size, and mothers who have breastfed may have decreased risk of breast and ovarian cancers. Infants can receive all the necessary energy and nutrients from breastmilk as well as many antibodies that can help protect against common childhood illnesses.
